PLEASE remove this picture. The owners should be shot for allowing this fur child to get this big. It is unsafe and horribly unhealthy. THis fur child cannot properly groom him/herself. Actually Guinness Book of Records, at one time, did have a category for largest or biggest cat. They dropped the category because owners were deliberately over-feeding their cats just so they could get their name in the book. Sad but true.

My guess is that it’s probably a pretty fat cat in reality as well (i’ve never seen a neutered ginger-tabby tomcat who didn’t need to lose a cpl of pounds or so), but something about it looks visibly “off” because with girth like THAT (pictured), it would never walk and then i’d feel awfully inclined to shove it’s owner into a veal-calf pen just for the sake of the irony (and for the chance to say “IT PUTS TEH LOTION BACK IN TEH BASKET” in all seriousness). Because if that isn’t a P-shop job, then this kitteh is the feline equivalent of that guy in Mexico that weighed somewhere in the neighborhood of 1300 lbs before he started using some diet plan or other and is slowly making his way down and some cat owner is, as we say “doing it wrong”

I know the person who posted this personally and she would never allow any of her animals to be this way on purpose. Her pets get better care than most people’s children. Her only crime here is that she has a sense of humor and she knows funny. I don’t know where she got the picture from (it’s not one of her babies), but it’s obviously been photo shopped.

If this is no photo shop, it is abuse
There’s a weirdness in the photo, top centre of cat, the top back leg seems to be much more in shadow than I’d expect, and the proportions don’t make sense for a cat. I think it has to be photoshopped, but there ARE grossly overweight cats in the USA and I do think that that should be subject to severe penalties for the owner (and extreme treatment for the animal).
I really hope that this cat isn’t this fat. I hope that all of us fans at LOLcats realize that this is ridiculously unhealthy and animal abuse.

Looking at the picture, it’s absolutely certain they used a trick lens, like a fisheye, and then photoshopped the image. Look at the cat. Look at where the light is striking the cat. Now look for the shadows from the legs. There aren’t any. The cat was pasted into the hallway. To get the cat to appear that obese, you use a convex lens – no different from a distorting mirror in a fun house. Or you could use a program like photoshop.

I think I might have known that cat…or perhaps a simmilar one. His name was “Crusher” and he’d been hit by a truck actually. He survived, but you could still see tire tracks on his side! He was with the McCellum family when I was a kid.
Um, seriously, that’s animal cruelty. One or two pounds overweight for a cat or dog is like ten or twenty pounds over weight for a human, and that cat is WAY more than one or two pounds overweight. It’s going to die because its owners don’t care about its health =/

“No, it was a terrible year”
You know, some kittehs have thyroid problems. We have a kitteh who is tubby (not like this, not even close, but still fat by cat standards) and she is on a strict vet-prescribed diet, is not free-fed, and has regular exercise, but because she has thyroid dysfunction, she is very slow to lose weight. Not all owners with fat cats are awful people who “should be shot.” Some of us are deeply concerned and do the best we can to give our pets a good quality of life.

I hate to ruin everyone’s fun, but this is animal cruelty. This cat is at high risk for diabetes, liver, kidney, and heart failure. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is already in the red zone for any and/or all of these. I think it is really sad that everyone so ignorantly finds an extremely obese cat to be something funny. I hope the owners of this cat reconsider how they’re treating their ‘beloved’ pet.
i completely aggree. fun is fun, but when an animal’s health/well-being is at risk, it’s time to smarten up.

If so many of you REALLY disapprove of this picture and find it to be a case of animal abuse then E-MAIL THE STAFF, STOP FLOODING THE COMMENT AREA WITH COMPLAINTS.
And it might be photoshopped. Take a good look at the resolution of the photo. But I am no photoshop expert, so I am not one to judge.
And if it is real, yes, it is cruel. But instead of having a fit here why not actually go out and make a real hands on effort to help poorly treated animals? Doesn’t that make more sense?
