It was an unfortunate combination of circumstances. Not the BB’s fault that someone posting stuff like that has gone out of the way to avoid filters by using all the *** .

Here’s how I *think* it works:
You have one .php file that defines how to display all the posts. It has the “possibly related posts” generator included in it, so that “feature” can’t be tweaked or disabled on a post-by-post basis, as with some other general WP features. (For all I know, WP may give you some kind of hosting deal or something if you use this feature — because it creates traffic for other WP sites — so they wouldn’t want it disable-able.)

I’m guessing the related posts thingy looks for other posts on WP sites that have the same tags or keywords. I’m also guessing that you can put some kind of max rating on what shows up, like you can with WP avatars and gravatars — G, PG, R, etc. — because naughty sites use all kinds of keywords to try to get traffic, so otherwise we’d have all kinds of stuff on here every day.

Also I’m sure the BB’s filter comments for questionable content and spam, as there is very little spam on here if any — but this item wasn’t a comment, so it may not have been filtered to the BB’s usual standards.

In this case, something on the lolcatus post (prob the borg reference) must have been a keyword or tag match for the other post, and the fact that the post title had *** all over it meant that it wasn’t caught by any filters that are in place.

If all this assuming is on-target, my suggestion to the BBs would be to remove all keywords and/or tags in the lolcatus post, and see if that gets rid of the nasty link. ???
