I don’t really know the history on it, but I find it rather funny. For me it’s the cadence of the words, and the pointing out of the obvious. It really shouldn’t sound as clever, but it does. Doesn’t matter how many times or different ways it is said. I have no idea why, beyond that.

I never understood what the humour was supposed to be in the captions that were xxx cat does/is x (or xing), like the one that won the Jones Soda caption contest – Indecent exposure kitty indecently exposes. Is this some very inside joke or obscure literary or film reference? Not critisizing – just asking. I noticed that one of the “rules” on the voting page criteria was that the caption should be funny to a broad group of people, but I just don’t get it. Maybe I am not broad enough! Any explanation would be appreciated – always happy to learn something new.
