Over here 1 Liter of the high quality gas (1 Gallon is approx. 3.75 Liters) costs about 1.50 Euros.
That would be about 8,70 Dollars for a gallon of gas in Germany.

Actually, it’s quite close to $4 a gallon, not $2. And yes, it’s far lower than in Europe. But outside of a few metropolitan areas, public transportation in the US is awful. Lots of people don’t have any options to get to work or shopping other than by driving. It’s going to take a generation or two just to build up a public transportation infrastructure to make it possible for most folks to give up the auto as their primary mode of transportation.
I think a dollar is worth about half a euro now, too. Our country’s failing, huh?

Actually, it’s about $1.56=1 Euro ($1= 0.64 Euro), as of close 5/16/08.
But $2=1 Euro ($1= 0.50 Euro) by the end of the year would not surprise me, nor would $150 oil, $5 gas, or $1600 gold. I’ve seen this movie before, in the 70s
