All this washing of cats, it has to stop! Cats wash themselves very well, thank you, if they are in decent health, and many times even if they aren’t. It’s really cruel! If you need to wash a kitten, get a washcloth and warm-warm water. Dip the cloth, wring it out, and wipe the kitty like mama’s tongue would do. Use a brush to get stuff out of the fur if needed — they like gentle brushing — and don’t expose the cat to needless filth.

Again, I feel compelled to advocate for the opposition, Elizabeff, how do you know it’s cruel to warsh qats? Your generalization is just a false as all other generalizations. Some cats love the water, and even for those that don’t, sometimes a bath or shower is the only way to get them clean. If a cat has lain in a solvent or a petroleum distillate then the most humane and efficient way to solve the problem is a bath with sum sort of mild soap. Waiting for the cat to poison itself likking off kerosene because you think a bath is cruel is just wrong.
My son hated his bath when he was two, so was I cruel to inflict it on him? He wasn’t able to clean himself adequately so a bath was the best answer. It is often the same with cats. If you automatically assume it’s cruelty then your prejudices are nawt healthy for your qats.

I cannot do LOL speak for this pic. I washed a kitten like this with a friend about 15 years ago. This cat had fleas crawling under its skin, and it took multiple baths with flea shampoo to get rid of them. That kitty was a ginger male about 6 weeks old. He hated me for about 30 minutes, and then he decided he liked the warm dry towel and chin scratches. The poor kitty looked at me with the same mixture of trust and resignation. However, my friend and I found the kit a forever home. The last time I saw a pic, the cat weighed 20 pounds and ruled the house. This kitteh actually looks pretty content in the water. When they’re babies if you wash them they don’t usually freak out too much, especially if you have to do it more than once. Sometimes washing them gently in warm water when they’re babies makes them not afraid of water and then they like to swim like the scuba diving kitteh or the fishcat.

Washing a kitten that tiny is a recipe for disaster. It drops their body temperature drastically and very usually results in death. Honestly, this picture makes me sad, because as a kitten nursery volunteer, I know that most likely that kitten died a week later (tops).
I hope that kitten is still alive. I hope he made it.
I’m sure of it. Only somebody STOOPID would wash a tiny kitten without drying the little fellow off thoroughly and giving him something to keep him nice and warm after.
