i knew how to do the double eighth notes (♫): type “& # 9835 ;” w/out the spaces. on a hunch, i tried “& # 9834 ;” & sure enough, there was the single eighth note (♪)! that’s for html; in word (for windows, at least), hold down “alt” & type 9835 or 9834 w/num lock on.

oops--sorry, janet, i didn't check back for replies till now! i hope you still do. the story's from canada, but i'm not...i'm usa-an & live in new york. i heard the story on the national public radio show wait, wait, don't tell me, in this segment (about 2:50 in, but i'm not sure it'll be up after the next show airs on caturday). the show's from chicago, so i guess it shows ya just can't tell.

Awwww, dis kitteh remindin’ me of teh black kitteh wit 7 toes up front, and 6 toes in back (both sides). He climbed up my legs on a cold day, beggin for warm lovins and smooshy. He sure could grab food from me with all them extra toes. My son’s Grandpa fell in love with him and took him to his new home. (uh, did my first comment go through? I hope I’m not double commenting)
