I told my boss in PR that Finance would steal me. Those were my exact words. “You need to move me back downstairs, or they will steal me. Having me in close proximity will make them think I belong to them.” The CFO would approach me from time to time with projects late at night when her staff had all left for the day. After months of warning my then-boss that I would be stolen, she finally moved me downstairs with the rest of the team in August. Of course, the CFO offered to keep me up with her team so that I could be mentored. (You might imagine the look on my face. At nearly half a century, I do not feel the need to be mentored.) I politely declined, since I was dedicated to running reports for PR staff.

In November I was informed that I would be moved to a new team under Finance. I would be getting a new boss - a person brand new to the company, in fact. Oh. And they let me know they would be moving me back upstairs, but they didn’t know when.

When I met my new boss and he told him of his 8 years experience, etc., etc., I was tempted to ask if he had been hired there directly out of high school. I still can’t figure out his age, but he looks like he’s young enough to be my son!! Seemingly he’s a good guy. I will definitely…
