I can imagine a significant portion of our audience couldn’t enjoy the picture and would be relieved that someone voiced their unvoiced fears, and were put to rest.

I’m 90% certain these kittens are alive. The cats that are dissected were all adults. These are kittens. They just slept very soundly and were posed, is my guess. You can really move kittens around in their sleep.

U don’t have to be Egyptian (I iz not – but I be married to one) to be in Coptic Church – but the service is in mostly in Arabic, some part in Coptic (ancient Egyptian language) and part in English. Still, I love the art (icons) and history of church. I goes to Egypt every year, and visit the kittehs there (Cats remember that long ago, they used to be worshipped as gods in Egypt. I likes to remind my husband that long ago, his ancestors worshipped the ancestors of our kittehs).

teh Services sound long, but ai will bet they are verree prettee. Ai am nawt Catholic, but how ai luv(ed) to go to teh beeg important serivces. Yoo havn’t reelee seen St. Marks in Venice until yoo hav gone to an akshual service there. An the Easter Service in the Cathedral in Salzburg cannawt be beet.

The Orthodox Churches (Greek, Russian, Coptic (which are Egyptian Christians), Syrian, Ethiopian, etc) traditionally celebrate Christmas on January 7, as they follow the older calendars, not the one that was changed by Roman Catholic Pope Gregory several centuries ago, which moved Christmas to Dec 25 (which is why we call it the Gregorian calendar). Some Orthodox churches in the US celebrate on Dec 25, but the more traditional ones keep Jan 7.

The night before Christmas, we have a 4 hour long Mass (!!!!!!!!!) (I just got home from it). In the Coptic Church, we’ve been fasting for 6 weeks (no meat or poultry, no dairy products), so now we can eat normally until Lent begins (a longer, harder fast!!!!!) (We’re the TOUGH church!). Most people in Orthodox churches celebrate both Christmases and both Easters (Orthodox Easter is almost always on a different date than Western Easter).

In 2 weeks we celebrate Epiphany (Jan 20)

My kittehs enjoyed a Christmas snack just now, just as they enjoyed a can of real tuna Dec 25. And just as I attended my friends Christmas parties for Dec 25 Christmas, our friends are coming over in a few days to have a Coptic Christmas dinner with us! Cheez friends invited; bring the kittehs!
