In all seriousness, for those who chose to think – really think – about the ‘mile in another’s shoes’: I thank you. As a parent of a child with ’special needs’ (I hate that term: don’t we all have ’special needs’ of some sort?? ) – he has a myraid of diagnosis, an alphabet soup, honestly! – and has real problems with crowds, sensory input, sounds, lights….. sometimes, I have no true idea of what sets him off. We get plenty of looks in stores when my son has hit a ‘wall’…. Most of those looks say:

‘Why can’t you control your child?’
‘What’s the matter with him/you?’
‘All that kid needs is a good smack!’
‘You must be a horrible parent!’

or, my actual, life-experience favorite (but, only in Russia!):

“Why do you bring him out in public when you know he acts like that and bothers other people?”

People are cruel…. but, I can’t protect my son from that – I have to help him learn how to ‘deal’ in the real world. And, a lot of times, that means dealing with people who have absolutely no awareness of others. I show him, with my actions, that we have to accept others and understand that they, too, have problems that we have to accept. To care for others and the environment, and to do ‘good’ things. That being ‘a jerk’ hurts ourselves more than anyone else.

One of the reasons I fell in love with this place and all of you is how accepting you are – how caring and concerned you are about everything, not just yourselves. I feel very, very lucky to be part of ICHC….. thanks for including me!

For some people I think the idea of hunting and fishing are ways to enjoy being in the outdoors. For others and particularily in the area I lived some of the hunters lived off of what they hunted for part of the year. Or gave the meat to less fortunate families that needed help. Then again all of the hunters I knew were the respondsible type who didn’t go out and hunt just to kill something for the fun of it. My uncle hunts and for him it’s very family oriented. Both of my cousins hunt with him, and they both enjoy the time they spend with him. He is also a very respondsible hunter and uses almost everything from the animals he gets.

Unfortuantely though there are a lot of irrespondsible people out there who do hunt. They are the ones who upset me.
