My next-door neighbor is a 50-something year old woman who has been nasty and hostile from the time she moved into our condo association. She doesn’t so much speak to people as bark at them, so nobody really likes her. I served as the association’s volunteer director for a few years, and heaven forbid she had a problem with her condo unit. She has threatened a lawsuit over some minor water damage that existed when she moved in…anyway, just a few weeks ago the spirit of Christmas came over me and I decided to break the cycle of “no one does anything nice for her because she’s so nasty, but she’s nasty because no one ever does anything nice for her.” I bought a beautiful Christmas wreath with a nice hand-tied bow, and left it anonymously with a Christmas card on her front steps. Her reaction, which I couldn’t have even guessed was on the radar, was to call the police. She claimed that the association was trying to make her slip on the pine needles that fell on her steps…that the association was being mean by being nice to her. I guess at this point the only thing I can do is pray that she finds peace from the obvious mental anguish she’s in.
