Syllogisms, in review, is a useful logical concept of argumentation–proof–that proceeds like this: IF A, THEN B. B, therefore A. (eg, A. “if there are cats on ICHC , they must be cute”. B: “there are cats on ICHC”. Therefore C: “they (the cats on ICHC) are cute”. Once you get the hang of this, it’s really quite simple. But to take a bunch of these syllogisms and integrate into a synthesis, would be a higher order of logical argumentation. Interesting, though.

Your LATIN jokes–the ones I understood, were funny, and it’s fun how threads start one way, and end up on a different subect. BUT:

The dialectic, as usually formulated, uses GREEK terms–thesis — anthesis-===synthesis. (“syllogism” is also greek, and is an Aristoltian concept of LOGIC). This Greek formulation (thesis-antithesis=synthesis), actually orignated with KANT. Hegel wrote a book about LOGIC–but it was more inclusive than the ancient Greek syllogistic logic. It included the natural of reality. A triad he writes about in GERMAN is Sein (being)–Nichtsein (non-existence)==werden (becoming).

Hegel’s ideas were extended, interpreted, built on, and “turned on its head” over time–most famously by Marx in Das Kapital. For Hegel, his dialectic mainly , was a description of how history proceeds over time. (~progress~). Now-a-days, we like to use that Greed formulation, but, strickly speaking, it is not accurate to Hegels Dialectic.

It’s a common mistake, though.
