Sphynx allow some people with cat allergies to still enjoy having a cat as a pet. My husband is very allergic to cats, but fortunately isn’t allergic to Sphynx, so we are able to have a loving Sphynx are part of our family. Some people with cat allergies can tolerate Sphynx, others can’t.
As I said, the Sphynx hairlessness is a natural mutation. Nature created this wonderful breed.

That is not a very nice thing to say! Sphynx are very loving cats. They are very sweet, and love nothing better than to cuddle with their humans. They are very affectionate. Everyone that I’ve run across who has met a Sphynx in person (as opposed to just seeing photos or Sphynx in movies or on TV) has been totally charmed by the breed. Sphynx are wonderful cats!
I have to agree with Dtragonheart.
To say anything unpleasant about a Sphynx cat just is not al all nice. They are cats exactrly like any cat. All cats have some differences in appearance. Just like all humans do.
It’s not in good taste to say things that are better left unsaid in my opinion.
One should try harder to say more constructive things.
And yes, Sphynx cats are wonderful cats.

Of course people are entitled to their opinions. But they can express their opinion in a way that doesn’t hurt others. Calling Sphynx ugly or saying that they “give you the creeps” is mean and cruel. People can say that Sphynx look different, or that Sphynx don’t appeal to them. That’s fine. I don’t expect everyone to love the breed. But to make fun of Sphynx or call them ugly is not a very nice thing to say.

I so agree with Dragonheart and Pyewacket. Sphynx cats are noble, loving and cuddly; I have never heard of a bad-tempered or aloof Sphynx. If people can’t say nice things, then it’s better to say nothing at all.
Sphynx are a charming breed. Just because some people have pre-conceived notions of “cute” does not make them ugly. The are noble, wonderful cats.

I’ve never heard of a breed called Mexican hairless. Hairless cats are generally Sphynx, also known as Canadian Sphynx. These kittens and their mom look like Sphynx to me! In fact, they look like I did as a kitten.

Hey, serious question: do cats with no fur get as cold in the winter as naked humans? Do they need clothing to go outside?

I think they do need more cosseting yes. I’m not sure though, because my knnowledge is limited to them being a real species (I’d reserve “ick” comments for shaving cats for a funny pic), and my understanding is that the demand is from people who want a perfect flat, but want a cat too.
Sphynx are indoor-only cats. They should not go outside, except on a harness, when it is warm out.
Otherwise, Sphynx have a fast metabolism, that helps to keep them warm. The rule of thumb is: if a human needs to wear a sweater indoors to be comfortable, then a Sphynx would probably appreciate a warm lap or burrowing under the covers to stay warm.

They do get cold, but it depends on where you live. It doesn’t snow here, and generally stays in the 80’s (SoCal), but if he’s cold, he’s put himself under one of the many blankets that are around the house for him.
The breed in general likes to wear sweaters, ones made out of cutting socks, or XS dog sweaters work really well.
As for going outside, it’s not good to take them out when it’s sunny, because they can get sunburn, but we take Hoji out on a little catleash in the backyard every now and then, when it’s not too hot, which he seems to enjoy. Sometimes he gets cold when it’s windy, so we take him out in a sweater or carry him around in a blanket.
We live in Munich, where it can get cold in the winter, but our Sphynx doesn’t have any problems. He’ll curl up in one of our laps, or burrow under the blankets if he needs to.
Good point about the sunburn. We take our Sphynx out in our yard on his harness only when it’s nice and warm out and when there is plenty of shade in the yard so he doesn’t get burned. He does love exploring our tiny yard on his harness!
Oh wow, Munich! I can imagine it does get very cold there! Southern California Winters still involve it being very sunny, with the occasional rainy day or too, but it’s mostly warm-warmish weather. But yes, he’s very good about finding a warm place if he wants to.
The breeder told us that if we were going to take him outside for long periods of time, to put sunscreen on him. But all we ever do is let him explore the yard- he likes chasing birds or sniffing at insects, but all under the protective custody of his harness. XD

Well, all I can is if a sweet sphynx is the “most disturbing thing” an individual has ever seen, they must have never watched the evening news, read a newspaper, or been out in the world.
When I first saw the adorable Dragonheart, my first thought was, there’s a really different type of cat — how cute. I was mesmerized by his little toes and face in particular. Now the more I know him, the more beautiful he becomes. Guess beauty — and ugly — truly is in the eye of the beholder.

We are not personally familiar with Sphinx kitties, but we have heard that they are very friendly, cuddly and intelligent. Our aunt has held one and said the kitty was very warm and soft.
We are grownups and should not judge by looks alone.

Sphynx cats RULE. They are not disturbing in the least – they are very affectionate and loving cats. These kittens are absolutely adorable!
I know a Sphynx kitty. His name is Dragonheart and I think that he is very handsome. Sphynx kitties are very loving kitties and seem to be some of the nicer breeds out there. I think those babies are beautiful.

Our furrend Dragonheart is a Sphynx an he’s not ugly or disturbing. He’s kyoot and so is that muvver and her baby kitties. Just like hyoomans all look diffrunt, so do diffrunt kitty breeds. Sphynx and their hyoomans haf got feelings so don’t be mean to them.

We have a friend who has a Sphynx and it is one of the absolute cutest cats ever, AND it has a wonderful personality. People who put down the sphynx breed are obviously ignorant and have never dealt with a Sphynx before. Sphynx are awesome!
