I quite agree, teachah. There’s plenty of forums where people can discuss and debate polical issues, which are important and relevant to us and the world we live in. And there are valid points to made by both “sides”.
But I think ICHC is important, too, but for different reasons. We can remove ourselves from our serious lives and world for a few moments, and enter a whole different world–with it’s own language, sociality and furry inhabitants. It’s a chance to have fun TOGETHER, quite unlike the divisive world of politics and humanity. We meet with a common goal–to LOL!

holy crap, people, get a grip on yourself! for months, my middle school comrades have told me that global warming is a “phase of the earth.” omg they are so freaking wrong its not even funny. there is evidence that suggests that burning fossil fuels connects to the depleting ice caps, and so on! im not one of those if-you-can-make-a-scientific-looking-graph-out-of-it-then-it-must-be-true person, but still! there is overwhelming evidence that GLOBAL WARMING, OZONE DEPLETION, and THERMAL EXPANSION (among others) are NOT just “phases of the earth.”
