Just on the subject of trolls … I think it’s endemic on the internet these days. Bored people with nothing better to do with their time than annoy and upset others. Internet hooligans, morons and vandals.

I was disgusted to see comments on a you-tube vid the other month. I had been following the video diary of a WWII veteran who was recording his memories and broadcasting them, knowing he had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. When he passed away, his wife posted a really beautiful video letting everyone know he had passed and thanking people for the support and love he and the rest of his family had received in response to his stories.

Some … person of no humanity … had commented in response to her video ‘You is ugly, old and fat, woman. Why don’t you **** off and die too.’

I was horrified. And overwhelmingly saddened that there are people out there with the energy to BE that negative. To take time out of their lives to actually hate the world enough to do things like that to perfectly innocent, not to say wonderful, people.

And the only answer I can find is to NOT be one of those people. To continue to be decent and compassionate and try to show that ‘the real test of good manners is how you respond to bad’.

Well - ai suspects moast of US cudda red it - butt the cashual reeder probablee wudda had sum trubble - and your words are so important that I am breaking out into English, too.

I often find it . . .well, breaking out into English isn’t going to do me a lot of good. Words fail me when I contemplate the utter meanness and viciousness so many people are capable of. And it isn’t just now - it’s always been that way. But why? Why on earth do they do it? What kind of darkness must be in their souls that allows them to THINK such a thing, let alone actually to write it and SEND it to someone - someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one, no less.

sawa, you are dead on target when you say the only thing to do is try to counteract this is to be as kind and thoughtful to others as we possibly can. Which, I quite sure, most of our dear friends on this site already do. Maybe, together, we can create a force for good which will eventually conquer the evil ones. Could be.

A pitchfork and lots of laughing can be our umbrellas!
