Nine months…wow…been there, done that, but for only four months. I was alone to, except for my animals. They took very good care of me…teh orunge ones (definately NOT poisen), an teh black ones ana teh stripy ones an teh white ones an teh siamese wuns and mai two dogz. Don’t know what I would have done without them. I’m ok now and still don’t know what I’d do without them.
PS Has this picture been here a long time or did I loose time? I thought this picture was on Thursday??? Tofu & Cheez on bacation or sumpin?????

I acquired my first cat, Boris, at a time when I needed a “friend”. He was about 102 when he came to me and had already out-lived two owners! The first was thought to have been Russian (though I think maybe she was Polish; Boris came with a very old-fashioned, wooden carry box with old, old flight stickers and the name “Tadeusz” on), which is why Boris was called Boris – apart from it being a very cool name for a cat!
I don’t know anymore about his first human but his second was an old lady and a neighbour of a colleague. The old lady died at home (from cancer of the pancreas) and Boris sat/slept on her bed, by her side, all through her last illness. When they had to remove the body they had to find a sweater of the lady’s for him to sit on, so he could still smell her, and he came to me with that sweater.
I took over Boris, got him some much-needed dental work (seriously bad breath from rotting teeth!) and looked after him in his old-age, as he’d looked after his previous owners. Then I got sick – Boris was the only person I had to talk to at 3am when the wolf and her cubs came out to scare me, while I was being treated for cancer. In the daytime I was fine but sometimes, at night, it was pretty frightening but at least I had Boris. He saw me through 9 months of treatment and died (heart failure) about a week after I had my last blast of radiotherapy.
I was very sensible and grown-up and held back for nearly 6 weeks before going to the nearest Cats rescue and getting Amber!
Boris and Amber both orange, but definitely not poison! I think maybe orange fur is the best for absorbing the “My life is shit” tears!

homescribe, I am sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. My mother passed in the spring, and we had a similar experience. She couldn’t really eat, but she could let that strawberry ice cream melt in her mouth. It was the only time she was really connected to us at the end. When we would tell that story to friends and relatives they would say “of course what else would she want?”

It is amazing there are people in the world like that nurse and of course ICHC. I hope your pain lessens as the days go on. Thinking of you.

They know. They absolutely know. Barney arrived at our house just a couple of days after my Dad died. He quickly became a house cat – and he slept every night with my mother for quite some time. He would snuggle up – put his littel arms around her neck and cuddle her. Tehn so by and by he would move over to my Dad’s bed.

And she was in the hospital several times after that with various problems, and everytime when she came home he would jump up on her bed and hardly budge.

I think Barney really helped her get through it. They were just a few months short of their 70th wedding anniversary. How do people get along without kittiehs?

Gayla – I am so happy to hear taht Cole continues to recover – and making good progress. And that Haley is doing better as well. Having Cole be getting better should do her a world of good.

The husband of a very dear friend of mine was in a terrible car accident a year ago. He was so badly injured I didn’t see how he could possibly survive. But he did – he’s been in the hospital for nearly a year now – but he’s going to make a nearly full recovery.

and just a month ago another friend’s husband was struck by a car. They didn’t know for two weeks if he would live or die – but he’s now looking forward to a full recovery. Just takes time.

Hurray for modern medical techniques!!! Ain’t it grand!

And a very happy Thanksgiving to you! and everyone in your family.
