Lipstick was yellow/orange.
Smokie (latest kitteh who just recently died) was all gray.

That is the spokes-ape for the World Wild Life Federation, Koko, a Mountain Gorilla from the Congo. Koko can speak using sign language and has demonstrated remarkable abilities to communicate. Not only does she have a 1000 word vocabulary, but she also taught the world that Gorillas have emotions too. Koko’s Kitten is a famous film that documented her relationship with AllBall. When the cat later died (of non-gorilla related causes) Koko grieved for months and repeatedly asked her handlers where the kitteh had gone. They had to explain death to Koko and she was depressed for months on end, she was even observed crying, fawning over the cat’s toys, and looking longingly at pictures of her kitty. Eventually Koko adopted a second kitty (AllBall II), and much likes we humans, her heart healed.

I use to live 10 mins from her in the SF Bay Area in California. her kittahs name was “All Balls” because he was a male. She named him.

Koko died a few years ago, right? And neither AllBall 1 or 2 is alive. And in spite of the fact that Koko adopted and cared for her pet something like 20 years ago, gorillas are more endangered than ever and are still portrayed as fierce, dangerous predators. Sorry to vent in human speak, but will humans ever learn?
Koko passed away several years ago….but the Center’s work still goes on!
No, Koko is still very much alive. It was Michael who died in 2000. Michael was Koko’s brother/confidante– they had wanted them to mate but Koko regarded him as a brother rather than a potential husband.

Koko are still alive. Her Brother Michael died, as did her kitteh, All Ball. She live not too far in Woodside.
As a member of the American association of real gorilla hardcore feminists of the underground (otherwise known as AARGH F U) I find this completely offensive. It promotes infidelity in male gorillas. Every time a person lols at this, a female gorilla committs suicide because her husband threw her aside for some sweet young thing. This is not good because gorillas are endangered.

This piccie brought a tear to mah eye! I loves teh Koko. She loved All Ball SO MUCH. She was inconsolable when her kitteh died.
Huuminz would b surprized at how much teh gorillaz feel. They are VERY similar to us. Koko’s brudder Michael was saved from teh poachers, but his entire family was killed by them. Even though Michael was only an infant when he was saved, even as an adult he had horrible night terrors about the poachers. PTSD. He didn’t know as many ASL signs as Koko, but he was able to communicate the contents of the dreams to his huuminz when he woke up in a frenzy. Hopefully us huuminz will learn someday and will help protect others in the animal kingdom.
Washoe the chimpanzee, who learned sign language, had a vocabulary of a hyooman 5-year old!
