Reminz me… wen my ornjy wite kitteh (Nosferatu) wuz kitten, i hd apartmnt wif slidin glass doors, leedin to a lil balcony-type thing. Nosferatu use to watch teh skwirrls out tere, n wun day was v intent watchin wun skwirrl gatherin nuts n stuff outside. Suddenly, teh psycho skwirrel jumped hard against teh glass door, like “raaaahh!”. Nosferatu jumped bout ten feet in teh air! Took him a while to bravely aproach teh door egen.

I has teh funneh skwirrel storeh.

Mah kitteh was sittin in teh middle of teh street cumplacentlee. All uff a sudden, I saw too skwirrels. Wun skwirrel at 5 oclockk, and wun at elebun oclockk. They stood, for a momunt, lak gunfiturs, facin mah kitteh. Ten, dey rushed mah kitteh….dey ran straight at her, JUMPED OVER HER, and then ran in the opposite direction and away. Mah poor kitteh stood in teh street, dummfounded and stunned….not noein wut to tink.

Ah almost laffed mahself to det.

Wish ah had a video uff DAT wun.

thank you everyone who has replied…. I have felt this in my heart for about a week now, but have been told by some “PEOPLES” not to interfere……

I located a place, but they say they will probably just euthanize, but I guess this is better than the alternative….I cannot believe she is still alive as it is…..She is a real fighter….

Somehow injured wildlife finds its way to me, and I have always been able to “help” in someway, but this time I have felt sort of helpless….

I really appreciate all your input, and I will keep you posted as to what happens….

I am going to try to catch her without stressing her out too much and then take her in…

Please try to get some help for this animal. Your local humane society can probably tell you who the local wildlife rehab people are, or the department of fish and wildlife (county), or a local vet may be able to tell you. If you decide to help the squirrel yourself, be careful not to let it bite you (wear thick gloves). The squirrel can transmit it’s infection to you. Perhaps a Have-a-heart trap would be a good idea. You can usually rent them from the Humane Society. Remember that even tho the animal seems tame, it is still a wild animal. When they are in pain and or sick they can really do some damage. I would definitely find either a wildlife rehabber or a vet who works with wildlife (google or your local zoo can help). Call them and explain the situation, they can give you good advice.
JMO, I’d have that sqwerl in a cat carrier in an eyeblink and to my vet (he does wildlife work in addition to small pets) asap. If she is tame enough to let you pet her, she is tame enough for you to get her to the vet or a rehab place for either treatment or a humane end. Nature is usually, by nature, “nasty brutish and short” (paraphrasing here). So, since you befriended her and have the ability to help, I would not let nature take it’s course.

can your friend skwerl eat? can it drink? if you set nesting near it, can your friend help itself to shelter?
If your friend skwerl can help itself with a little of your help, I would let your heart determine nature’s course. If your friend skwerl can’t eat or make shelter, Nature is already taking her course…you may help it be less painful.

I think the Wildlife rehab idea is the best – you will feel better, and the squirrel will be helped if possible. I googled “wildlife rehabilitation center” and it seems that just about every state in the US has accredited centers listed online, as well as some in Canada…you can maybe google with your postal code to find one near you?

It’s hard to hurt in seeing hurt – sometimes harder to not hurt by not seeing. It’s always better to act having seen…
