Seriously, AIUI Kitteh is based on txtspk and dial-up e-mail abreviations, with a chunk of mis-spelling and “Broad Scots” [or maybe Lallans or Doric], so really doesn’t translate well into French (or German; I don’t speak Spanish at all).

A. the reaction wasn’t to being given cat advice, it was to K’s tone, regardless of the validity of the point. if you’ll look back thru prior threads, you’ll see “The people who post regularly are clearly an animal loving and quite knowledgable bunch, which is why I don’t understand why some of you insist on taking every caution as a personal attack on your common sense” is simply untrue – people post valid and useful advice frequently and the advice is then appreciated. lead off with an “I know best” and follow it up with hysteria, however… that gets old fast, and perhaps you’ve missed some of the threads which were almost entirely made of that – for instance, the one where I was eventually compelled to clip an Inano to my… uh… well let’s just say it seemed like a good idea at the time

B. the PARODY of K (and this is more defendable) is due to her complete overreaction. I mean: throw a tantrum like that on a humor site, and you think people won’t run with it… excuse me? something like that, reams and reams of new material and some great drop lines, plus the fact that you’ve just flamed everyone in sight so they have no reason not to parody you … far too inviting

I’m sure that had K posted using your even, well reasoned tone, this would all be ancient history. as it is, she’s given us material which will live,,, IN INFAMY !!! ( and I, for one, am STILL enjoying being a fluffy pink troll, both here and IRL- BLARGH!!! )

And, yes, from what I’ve seen of the internet, (today I had to tell three teenage year old girls I work with to take their cell phone numbers of of their myspace page and that it was a bad idea to put up pictures of themselves in their tank tops and underwear), it’s not the domain of common sense, so no, i don’t assume every stranger with a computer has the sense and knowledge not to hurt a pet, or not to get off on tricking animal lovers into posting a picture of an animal being abused or endangered knowing they’ll assume it was taken in fun. The people who post regularly are clearly an animal loving and quite knowledgable bunch, which is why I don’t understand why some of you insist on taking every caution as a personal attack on your common sense, when you are maybe 5% of who reads this page. (I understand that some of the fighting was based on personal attacks on an individual’s pet raising, and that I get, it’s the group defensiveness and reaction of uninvolved parties that seems a little over the top.)

I find most of the fake warnings funny, it’s just the sentiment that they are responsive to an attack that seems weird to me. I mean, you complain about people overreaching and jumping to the worst possible conclusion which is totally valid, but then you accuse me of making a comparison I didn’t make and somewhat rudely accuse me of assuming none of you have any common sense, when that’s explicitly not what I said. It’s not just that some of the warnings are poorly communicated, it’s that some people seem eager to get their panties in a bunch and feel attacked instead of responding with humor or politeness.

And your attempt to compare certain Lolcats to the photos posted to the lolcat builders by a few deranged individuals had nothing to do with poor imitations but were the work of deeply disturbed “people” (and i use the word “people” very loosely in their case) who wanted to shock and horrify us for no other reason that to sate their own particular patholgies…so who’s really being willfully naive? I might recommend an Abnormal Psych class for a semester or two.

Let me explain it to you this way: If i want to do something horrific and offensive to get a rise out of a group of people, do you think i’m going to do it in front of a group that approves of it and appreciates it? NO…I’m gonna find the group of people most likely to experience my transgressions in the way i want them to, so i can pretty easily extrapolate that the animal abusers came to a site where they knew they could provoke horror and disgust, not because they were inspired by “Invisible Bike” or “teh Kitteh jar” but because they are sick f**ks who wanted to make us both sad and angry for their own amusement.

True, this is the Internet, and this particular website is largely devoted to people expressing their opinions–whether it be about a pic, a post, or the person who posted it. However, it lacks the part of conversation that we as humans have come to rely on to make or get a point: vocal inflection and body language. What we write can frequently be interpreted as mean, ignorant, over-reacting, or downright hateful, even though that is not the intent.
I’m rambling, so I will make my point: Without these non-verbal clues to help us detect your true intent of your comments, we are unable to tell how serious you may be. Frequently, phrasing something one way is the same as inferring that the opposite is also true. Let your comments speak for you, for how you write and what you write about is the only way the reader has of forming an opinion about you. If you are educated, intelligent, have the book learnins’ or are just plain smrt, then we will pick that up from your writing. In a text-only environment, writing “I’m intelligent” has the same meaning as “you are not”.

You may not enjoy the ridicule, but rest assured nobody around here appreciated being talked down to over a subject which most of here regard as common sense and otherwise agree with you.

When that was pointed out, you courted further ridicule by delving deeper into a histrionic episode and started playing the martyr with your whole tirade about “mob mentality” which by that point was just pouring gasoline on the proverbial fire

When it was pointed out to you that your initial post and those earliest responses might have been a little over the top, a brief moment of introspection might have been in order. You know, a quick internal acknowledgment like “Hmmm, maybe i was a little over-the-top, and maybe i could have avoided making a pile of sweeping generalizations which could be construed as an insult to the collective intelligence of the other posters”

You have my sympathies for any health issues you may be suffering, but as far as the parodies go, i cannot and will not apologize for capitalizing on such fertile ground for such things, this is the internet after all, and self-seriousness is the proverbial low-hanging-fruit
