My mom’s old cat Marmalade had no teeth. He was fed smooshed up minced cooked turkey breast mixed with tuna (albacore if you please) heated slightly in the microwave. Good thing he wasn’t spoiled.

Tumors are simple to remove. I work at a vet clinic, and I’ve seen a tumor taken out that weighed a whole pound. That thing was nasty.

Good for all of you who take your kitties to the vet!!!!!!! Especially for good dental care! Bad teeth play a major role in the development of kidney disease which is one of the most common causes of death in older kitties.

When your car isn’t moving, you mean, correct?
Surely she doesn’t sit on the peddles when the car is moving? If so, you are basically shooting a loaded gun into a crowd… maybe you hit, maybe you don’t.
Negligence, for which, if there were an accident, you would go to jail (just letting you and everyone else know the realities) — it’s a very cute picture, absolutely adorable.. assuming the car hasn’t started to move and WON’T start to move until the cat in the carrier.
There have been tens of thousands of accidents due to a cat getting under the peddles.. the person then has to either kill the cat to hit the brakes (heart breaking) or not – and risk killing innocent people including those in the car – not to mention all the others in the other car or cars.
DON’T DO THIS.

Yes my cat as well, even in a frightened state. They seem to have this extreme dislike for getting stepped on…but I’m sure that they don’t let thier cat drive. You are a rude one, Stend. I haven’t extrapolated anything. Someone else, as I recall, also mentioned the dangers of having a cat free in a vehicle – the only difference is that the other person put the comment into lolspeak with some allcaps, and I didn’t.

It is clear and ordinary logic to point out that a cat in a moving vehicle is a danger. That was one of my “whirling hysterias”
It is also clear and ordinary logic to understand that a cat which cannot clean itself is too heavy and that the extra weight will shorten the cat’s life.
Not sure what part of that you found to be “whirling hysteria” but you do seem to have a gift for picking out *only* those comments that aren’t about how totally cute something is, and zeroing in on the ones that make a point.

And so – given that others make the same points as I have, what is your problem with me? The lack of lolspeak? Sorry, I’m new to it and while I think it is 90% cute and 10% over the top (Elfinugget does it exceedingly well, must others do also, some go over the top) I’m not proficient yet and so I prefer to avoid it until I feel secure – although I did try.
Moreover, when making a real point, the seriousness of the point is made in regular English to underscore that a point is being made.

Many people don’t realize the dangers of having a kitty free in a moving vehicle. When I was younger I didn’t, thank god nothing bad happened – but it does, every day. Making a clear warning on the issue is hardly “whirling hysteria” – it’s common sense when a person says as Blahh did:

I realize that you have been here longer than I have – and so you get voted up and I get voted down. No one *ever* wants to hear something that could be negative (even if it’s not) — it’s much more fun to just enjoy the cuteness – your rabid denounciation is good evidence of that.
However, it brands you far more than it brands me – I *know* what happens when this type of accident occurs; I KNOW what happens when kitties get too heavy and die early as a result, or don’t have their teeth tended to and lose them – bad things. Ignoring them won’t make them go away, pointing them out isn’t hysteria – one or two comments, one from me, one from someone else and so forth – amoung the many “cute” comments won’t ruin anyone’s day -
BUT it might save someone’s life (or prolong the life of a beloved kitty) – you err if you assume everyone here has the same level of knowledge in matters of cat care, the same level of common sense, the same appreciation for consequences. 15 years ago I had a lot less of these, I have more now – hopefully I’ll get to live longer and gain more.
For you to deem it “whirling hysteria” – essentially forcing me to defend myself (and I do hate defending against a net-troll, one can never win) negates the importance of the message and says “all cuteness allowed, anything real isn’t” — does that mean that YOU will be responsible when someone who loves their cat holds it in the car, then watches helplessly as the cat goes under the petals and causes an accident?
Will you be stay silent (yes you will, you did) when someone talks about a cat needing to be washed because it can’t wash itself — and everyone says “how cute” – not “um, maybe the kitty is too heavy” — that was explained, but it is a truth that human beings breed cats and dogs and other animals for traits they deem desirable, not caring if said traits are good for the creature; long haired cats are a perfect example, they CAN’T groom themselves adequately but HOW CUTE they are. Intestinal difficulties are another.

This is a humor site. The people viewing this site are intelligent people and love cats. They/we don’t need to be lectured about cat-care. We are here to enjoy the silly photos and the silly comments. No one here needs advice on cat care.

It is very clear to me that this is a humor site. And I enjoy it as such. But yes, occasionally something does come along that prompts the thought of “Hey, that could work out very very badly” and I wasn’t the only person to say something.

I agree – the length of my posts is a problem; the orginal wasn’t very long at all, just a touch over the length of the other poster who said something about the cat in car thing. After being attacked, I do tend to get wordy – it’s my defense mechanism, and a far better one than telling someone to get their medication adjusted – you don’t froth at the mouth when someone posts something that you don’t like, you simply say so.
Yes, it is a humor site – but your assertion that “the people viewing this site are intelligent people and love cats” — well, yes, love cats… but is everyone of the same level of intelligence? And we aren’t even talking about intelligence, we’re talking about common sense, or even about having heard of something or having a notion.

I would never drive around with my cat not in her carrier. Now would I drive with my dog out of his, or drive without my kids being buckled in.
Most of here on this board have owned cats for longer than you have probably been alive. We KNOW this stuff. Many of us are professionals in the various animal related fields. We don;t come here for education or scolding. Yes, there may be younger/newer pet owners who need the info, but for most of us, it’s preaching to the choir.

Apparently you are unaware that it is dangerous to ’scruff’ a large cat if needed while washing. No matter what her size, my POINT was that I would hold my cat in the shower instead of bathing her in the tub for her comfort, her emotional comfort. Not because she was too large.
She had other health issues that meant it was difficult for her to reach her bum to clean it, she had been hit by a car as a kitten and had some spinal problems. So I would wash it for her to prevent smell, mess, and pain for her. My pleasure as her “momma”. I did more than most pet owners to keep her weight under control. I was aware of the risks, and wanted her healthy and comfortable. I did as well as I could.
Have you seen a Norwegian Forest Cat? The males average over 20 pounds, and are NOT fat.
If your every response to our sharing of stories about our own kitties is to denigrate or warn about something or another, people here won’t pay much attention to you. Perhaps an occasional thought, joke, comment on topic is more in keeping with the tenor of this message board.

I have had to drive three cocker spaniels (two of whom like to ‘help’ drive, but I don’t let them) to the vet at once, and that’s not fun. I totally get where you’re coming from. Koneko and Duffy are right to say what they did, as were the people who protested about the Sylvia Plath / Force Field picture for example. People absorb far more than just the punch-line from images like these, including the impression that it is normal to drive with a cat loose in the car, or that it is all right or even amusing to treat cats in unacceptable or dangerous ways for our amusement.
This is a wonderful, fun site, which is why I’m here, but that shouldn’t mean that we simply blind ourselves to the reality underlying the occasional picture.

This is very sad because a warning of what may (and does every day) happen when people take cats in cars freely without a carrier, is an APPROPRIATE thing to say.
The parents of said person need not be retarded (or whatever offensive thing was said below) – many people do MANY things without thinking twice – in some cases, there is disaster, in others nothing bad happens.

My reason for making the statement is because something bad happens every day from doing this, and why take the chance that someone might do it for lack of a warning or awareness? Does Stend believe that EVERYONE who reads this website THINKS OF EVERYTHING?
I don’t. I doubt Stend does. And a lifetime of law and teaching has taught me (as it has taught Kitisir) that 1) much more is always absorbed than the surface message, and 2) don’t assume that everyone knows what I know today – think about what I knew/didn’t know, 15, 20, years ago and be afraid, because most of us who make it to any age at all are extremely lucky – we make potentially devastating mistakes with regularity – and as we get older, and hopefully learn more, we do it less.
My post, as Duffy’s as Kitisir’s was an attempt to point out what can and often does happen when a cat is free in a moving car.

Everyone knows the pictures here are rigged, and no one on Earth is such a moron as to actually let their cat move the pedals in a car that’s running.
What they did is put the cat down there for a couple seconds while the car almost certainly wasn’t even turned on, take the picture, think “Ha ha, this is going to be funny,” put the cat in the back seat (or leave it at home with someone else?) and get going. Logic dictates.
Does Koneko understand the idea of special effects, as in faking things so they appear to have been a certain way, as they do in the movies? Hello?
