Speekin of bellie-rubs, lolfrens – my girl kitteh has recently started likin likin likin her bellie until she’s likd all the fur AND the skin off ow ow ow. I tuk her to teh vet who gave her a depo-medrol shot but shez still licking herself raw. Nuthin’s chanjed in her virunment that I can think ov. Any sugjeshuhs on helpin her get over dis, short of a *pleh* Elizbethan collur?
I has a kitteh that’s doing that same thing- he’s a feral cat we feed and take to the vet. The vet gave him a steroid shot once, on the theory that the kitteh might be suffering from skin itchiness, but it didn’t work. He seems to lick less when he’s calm… dunno if that helps… maybe a kitteh tranquilizer or anti-anxiety med?
Teh kitteh mabe haz “displased agreshun”…my sweet freddie-cat likt and likt no matter wut dr. gived himz til he hadz bald belleh…nao iz on Prozac after much considerashun. Is werkin mostly.
My sweet kitteh Fred hadz that too. Dr (and literture) sez iz mebe “dizplaste agreshun”. We do eberyting to halp himz, but soon, hiz hole belleh iz bald. Still wantz to snorgle teh belleh..but himz kant stop teh likin and liken. So dr. sez Prozac. We gives much considerashuns and tries it. It werks a little, but tuk much weeks to c himz fur grow back.

As a side note, I think it’s so great that we have people working on the R&D for things like this to make our pets’ lives better. My mom often tells how, when she was growing up, the idea of taking a dog to a vet was ludicrous – if it got sick, it’d get better or die, and if it took too long in the dying, a shotgun’d help it along. Nobody spayed or neutered; they just took the sack of pups/kittens to the lake. Real sad stuff – and only two generations ago. So glad we’ve come so far since then.
and cancer treetments, and kidley transplants and blood transfixshuns….. amazing.
sadly, it’s not entirely a question of time…there are still folks around here who scratch there heads and say “but it’s a dog (or cat)” when anyone mentions paying a vet for anything besides shots.

HYOOG allergy purroblem all ober fur all speshees, so lots ob times it can START wif a allergy — eben to flees — but den becomes a bad habit….. da displayced aggresshun also be a common enuff ting, but agin, da behabior seems to way outlast whuteber started da actibity…

My loldog wuz doin same ting, I gots antibacterial spray at pet supply chain, is good for kittehs and puppehs. Spray on hot spot, keeps from infection, tastes yukky to kitteh so she no likin mor.
We useta haf a tabbygurl who did dat — finully stopt when the vet reelized that her teefs were all nasty and covered in plaque.
He cleened her teefs, and it all went away — eben the stanktuna bref.
