My mother’s vet(now mine as well) does them, so no need to stress an animal out by driving them around in a cramped carrier. Also some of us actually know how to order our pet’s meds online and how to administer vaccination properly to our pets. Which by the way if you vaccinate your own animals, in my experience, they think of it as even more attention. I have six cats and ten dogs currently and I go to refill my ink cartridges(via needle) and I have them all over me thinking it’s medicine time.

You didn’t need to explain yourself, but you did, and anyone who second-guesses you on this one needs to “walk a mile” first.

Number 1. Hello. I’m the person who took this picture.

Number 2. We were in the very sudden process of EVACUATING Louisiana for San Antonio Texas due to the little rain shower called Hurrican Katrina. Heard of it?

My boyfriends father, and owner of Casper and Rascal up there, wasn’t planning to evacuate the night before, so when the storm turned in morning, and everyone rushed around like mad men trying to pack essentials, the stores were sadly already sold out of cat carriers (yell at Wal*Mart, not us), so he rigged up these much roomier and perfectly safe carriers for the kitties. It gave them plenty of room to walk around, stretch out, sleep, and basically be more comfortable than us cramped humans in the seats. They were coddled and talked to the whole ride there, as well as being securely wedged (for lack of a better word) in place in the back.

If anyone wants to complain to me about the way the guys were transported feel free to email me. And I’ll ask you when that last time you evacuated one of the worst natural disasters in history was.

Just felt I needed to add my $0.02 here.
These cats are ri-donk-u-lously spoiled and loved. They were the first things considered in the evacuation.

Unless you’re an idiot, you leave BEFORE the storm hits. When there IS bright sunshine. That picture was taken on August 27, 2005. The storm hit on August 29.

How do I know? Because those are MY cats, part of a caravan of eight people and six cats who escaped that storm together. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough carriers, and by the time we realized that the storm was heading our way, the local stores had pretty much been cleaned out of such pet supplies. The laundry baskets were the only way to keep them relatively in place in the car for a 19-hour evacuation drive. My girlfriend and I talked to them and tried to keep them as calm as possible, but they weren’t happy. Nobody was happy.

If it makes you feel better, once we got to San Antonio (where we evacuated to), we did buy carriers for them for the eventual ride home. But if it’s a choice between leaving them behind and putting them in baskets? I think we made the right choice every damn time.

of course i didnt mean to put poor doggy into small “flat” type of trunk wifout teh windoze! dat wud be cruel.
if u haz flat trunk type of car, u can haz a net separating back seat section from driver section and put doggeh in back seat. :>

And really. As someone who lives in New Orleans most of the year, I would rather put my cats (if I had any, as the living situation doesn’t allow pets) in a laundry basket in my car than leave them to fend for themselves if I evacuate. Then again, if I had cats I’d probably end up having cat carriers too.
