I liked it well enough – I was in a miserable marriage so it wasn’t all it could have been. I don’t even like COOKED fish (or any other kind of seafood), much less raw.

I think it’d be more socially acceptable to say “Oh, I’m allergic to seafood products” but truth is that “allergic” = PLEH! for me.

It’s a very nice place, though* – Okinawa is to Japan as Hawaii is to the US; sort of a getaway holiday island for the “mainlanders.”

*Except for all the damn lizards.

Having said that, I knew several cats – at least four, including my own – when I lived in Okinawa (Japan), who would stalk imaginary geckos.

They’d spy a (real) gecko up high on the wall or ceiling, and chirrup and jump at it until a human came and removed the gecko to outside. (Bad luck to kill them. I don’t care, and the only reason I never killed one is because I was too busy screaming and jumping up and down and diving into the bed and hiding under the blankets.)

After the gecko was removed, however, the cat would return to the spot where the gecko had been, and would then begin to behave as if the gecko was still there – following it around, watching it go from one side of the wall to the other, up and down, swatting at, pouncing on, jumping for, and recoiling from… nothing. A minute inspection of the wall would invariably prove fruitless, and the whole time you’re checking the wall to see what the hell the cat is on about, the cat’s going, “Hey! You’re in my way! I can’t see the gecko anymore! Oh, there he is, okay, never mind.”

Very much weirdness. We never could figure out what they were tracking.
