My cat’s been on antibiotics for about forever, and they give him a little bit of growly-belly, so he cries just before he uses the litterbox. Then he runs out and leaves his uncovered stinkypoos and WE cry from the smell!

Anyway quick story. I have a cat named Shiva. When she goes #2 she never covers it up. Instead of covering it with the litter, she scratches teh side of the litter box for like 5 minutes. It’s really funny. Then one of my other 2 cats covers it up for her.
My cat does the same thing! He NEVER covers his, just scratches the wall all around it!
Ditto. My cat NEVER covers up, but she scratches the floor outside the litter box. So odd. Gotta love her, though.

Not covering their poo may be a dominance function — a cat who wants to claim the territory as his will not bury his excrement.
Yes! Mah resident kitteh, Humbert Humbert (god ress hes sole) stopped buryung hes poo whin we addid a kitten, coco chanel, to da mix. coco den tinks, “Kewl! We no bury poo hear!” an startid an uglee tradishen. Now onlee Max Factor burees becaz him is Felix Unger in de Odd Cupple.
i think it’s about a lack of instincts/training. neither of my cats have ever covered their poos. one did the random wall/floor/anywhere scratch and one of them bolts from the box like it’s radioactive. but my roommate’s cat, who lived her first 4 months outside with a mom who taught her the “way of the world” obsessively covers and comes behind mine to cover. in fact, my boycat has started actually scratching IN the litter box and IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION of the poo! it’s an amazing feat! really!
nah, my cat isn’t a dominant sort at all. She’s just kinda … stupid. lol All my other cats bury, she just scratches around and yanks a errant sock in. I don’t get it lol

now she thinks she needs to scratch whenever she’s done with anything. so when she finishes eating, she scratches the wall/inside of litter box, finishes taking a bath … it’s endearing, but not at 4:30am.
I thought my cat Tater tot was the only one scratches the side of the litter box to ‘cover’. We can tell whether Tater went #1 or #2 by how long he scratches.
I don’t think it’s a dominance thing…Tater is just not that bright.
