Why is it cruel to the cat just because a picture was taken? I’m sure the cat got all the attention he/she needed. The picture was likely just needed to show the vet what was wrong with the cat.

this isn’t funny. kitty is sick and needs a vet.
Sometimes widdle kittens have more sensitive eyes than bigger cats and can have trouble with their tear ducts. One of the silver kitties’ baby cousins had weepy eyes just like in this picture. The vet prescribed eyedrops, but the baby kitty’s eyes were very goopy and weepy for months–but he did not appear to be in pain or in any sort of discomfort (except when we were putting in the eyedrops or wiping the goop from his eyes, but that’s another story). Now the kitty is big and has no eye problems at all.
very happy that your kitty went to the vet. weapy eyes can be a sign of deadly upper respiratory infections. thus, teary kitty must go to vet to make sure.
My kitten had watery eyes too. He was rescued from outside at 7weeks old and had a sniffle… all better now!
yes this cat may have glaucoma or infection and needs help as soon as possible. please take it to a vet!!

I don’t think that’s the owner… they describe their cat as having weepy eyes “just like” in the picture.
That post is about some other cats, not the cat pictured. She clearly states, “One of the silver kitties’ baby cousins had weepy eyes just like in this picture.” Not, “This is a picture of one of the silver kitties’ baby cousins with weepy eyes.”

Summatimes…when I werkws at vet an kitteh gitz baf we put da vaseliniez in dere eyesies so day doant git soap in ‘em, allus looked like dis behbeh after baf. dat’s why he sad…. he hadda take a baf.
That’s a kitten with a cold who needs to see a vet. The nose is weepy as well as the eyes. Kittens get colds pretty often; easily cleared up and then–voila! No more emo kid!
Emo Kitteh does not look well.
Kittehs have an opaque, whitish inner eyelid called a “Haw” and appears from the inner part of the eye and moves out when Kitteh is sick.
Kitteh needs to go to “The Bad Place” (Veteranarian) and get sum stuff to make Kitteh feel better.
Then Kitteh can haz Soup & Cheezburger as a reward for being so brave.

regarding the kitty being “ill”…we just had kittens here and they are very sensitive to eye infections. My vet gave me home remedies….baby kitties just have sensitive eyes. And new kitties always look sad…ours looked like they wanted to cry for a couple of weeks. Now they just attack our toes!

When we got our kitty, he had upper respiratory infection. This caused him to sneeze and his eyes to water. The vet gave us some drops for his eyes, and when we had given him the drops he looked very much like this kitty. Hopefully this pic was taken right after kitty got some drops in his little eyes.

My oldest kitty-baby used to cry actual tears when we brought a new kitty into the house. My fiance didn’t believe me, until we had to house a kitten that accidently got outside and we were waiting for his people to come home. Kahlan went off, and when Chris went to her, she had tears rolling down her cheeks.
She stopped doing it when we held her and told her that because she taught us to love kitties so much, we wanted to help out other kitties not as well off as her. Either that, or she got used to it. She still sulks when a new kitty comes in, but she doesn’t cry anymore…I think she got her point across…

Okay, I’m sorry, but you guys. Does anybody actually *read* the comments before they post anymore? How many times do we need to see “this isn’t cute, this kitty is sick, someone take this kitty to the vet!!!!” for reals? The seventeenth iteration of that sentiment is not going to make any difference whether or not the kitty is sick, or whether or not its human took it to the vet, kk? I’m not trying to be mean, but it’s not like you get nice people points for being the eightyseventh person to get the vapors.

Oh my. I’m a Teho fan myself, and enjoy his comments (also the work he does in fostering cats). I suspect I have a lot of company in that regard … but to each his own.

I’m not criticizing Teho. I’m just saying that he doesn’t run ICHC or have anything to do with moderating or editing comments, so signalling him about a “nuff” here would be pointless.
As far as I know, the only place Teho has the access to deal with unwanted posts is at CuteOverload.
Not to mention that the picture is of unknown timeframe/origin, not as if the person who took it is likely to be reading this thread waiting for our (well-intentioned yet likely to be completely pointless) advice

Actually, no. Several people have said “My kitten/s had the same thing and got treated and are doing well” but no one has said “This is my kitten and he was treated and got better.” If you read the post you linked to above, where you claim that the submitter explained the situation, you’ll see that the commenter was talking about her own cats, or her cousin’s cats, or her own cat’s cousins, or something like that. Not this exact cat.
According to the caption, the pic was submitted by a “Lizzy” and no one by that name has responded, nor has anyone responded saying “This is my cat, s/he’s fine now.”
I don’t think our concern for this kitteh is trollish or rude. I still post to Scarlet to make sure Annie kitteh is doing ok and hope she sees and responds, because I care, even though I do not know her personally. My husband explained to me that the person who posts a picture here may not be the “owner” of the kitteh or whatever animal it is. “Lizzy” may not be able to answer our concerns, or I’m sure she would. The fact that our concerns have been posted many times just reaffirms to me that there are people in the world who DO care about animals and are willing to give their advice, help and comfort. I work in mental health and I know there are people who do abuse animals and i hate it with all my heart. It makes me very angry. SO, here’s to all of us who love and treat animals well. Keep it up!
I just adopted a rescue kitty the day before yesterday. While I was filling out the paperwork, the shelter volunteers were talking about one of the cats in the Sick Room. The owner’s boyfriend didn’t like the cat jumping onto the kitchen counters, so he turned the electric burners on, on the stove, and held the cat’s feet to them to “teach it” not to jump up on the stove or counters. The pads of all four of her feet were so badly burnt that they had split open.
I felt sick to my stomach hearing that, and spent the rest of the afternoon hoping that guy never has, or is around, any other animals, or kids.
I generally try to be a kind, pacifist, non-aggressive, can’t-we-all-get-along type of person, but I swear, if that had been my cat? It’d have been in the shelter because *I* was busy being in JAIL for murdering the b@st@rd who’d done such a thing.
I think people who abuse animals should have the exact same thing done to them that they did to the animal.

Ummm… not saying that this lil furrball isn’t sick, but depending on the way the photo was taken, it might be a trick of the light – esp. if they used a flash… specular reflections can sometimes give that appearance.

The funniest use of “the vapors” I ever heard was when an elderly woman excused herself and said she needed “a moment to recover from the vapors” and her daughter told me this meant she was gassy.

and that’s hugo, and he’s totally fine! he did have an eye infection when that picture was taken, along with a URI and pneumonia and constipation and all kinds of stuff. we rescued him from the docks near here. but we nursed him back to health for several weeks and just sent him off to a new home as a healthy, happy, incredibly spoiled and adorable kitten. i just thought that picture was cute because it looked like he was crying!

My kitty’s got chronic upper respiratory issues, as does my friend’s cat (common in cats with the smooshed-in noses especially). They get weepy eyes and stuffy noses and run around and play and eat and do all the normal kitty things. Sometimes they look sad and sick, but they’re not feeling sick and if it’s chronic, it’s not curable – we just have to wash their little faces a lot. But it’s much easier to deal with the eye goop than the sneezing of copious amounts of kitty boogies all over the walls.
*giggle* i adopted a shelter kitty back in february, and she came home with an upper respiratory bug (the shelter gave me some medicine for her).
it was so sad because she was being all sweet, and snuggly, and laying on me and purring and being so happy to be out of there…and then SBLAT!
