The photo of the kitten is unretouched as far as eyes/expression. I saw the original proofs as well as the kitten himself and that is what he looked like. This is a baby picture of GC, PR JKZOO Thomas Crown of Laureden and was taken by American Greeting Cards. The original was used on cards and also in a calendar by them.

Yes, you’re probably right, the eyes on this cat look a little too much like something from “Cats & Dogs” or “Shrek” — but you know what? GOOD!

ALL of these pix are retouched, elsewise there’d be no captions. Giant staggering DUH? This isn’t headline news and nobody expects it to be. (You don’t, right?) On this website, even more than on the one I mod, I applaud peeps who can proficiently & creatively use photo software to augment teh funneh. Of course, the major photochop magic is over at Worth1000 or maybe SomethingAwful, but that’s neither here nor there.

Stuff your fotoshop. I’ll play nice when nice is called for. Even with you.

My guess is that the comments are, for better or worse, stacked up against the macros in the pix themselves. If they’re not as funny, usually readers say “ho hum” and click low. Funny and/or positive and/or thoughtful comments usually get modded up, and talking in LOLspeak (aka “KSL”) doesn’t hurt either.

I have no answer here, other than that some people hate “me too” comments and try to discourage them. I really don’t know, since I’m not one of those thumbs-downers and they aren’t the sort to comment. Rather, their form of comment is rating.

Dear ICHCeezers,

Sorry to ask this in this post, I’m just wondering… why is it that some neutral, short comments have really low ratings? I was under the impression that not every comment has to be a witty alternative caption, it seems that if one expresses their love for a lolcat image in a short sentence then their comment can have really low ratings.

What I’m wondering is:

a) why rate the comment at all, since it’s just expressing the poster’s appreciation of the image and isn’t really something that is up there for appraisal anyway;

b) if you do rate it, why give 1 burger to a short post of appreciation? I seriously don’t understand it, not trying to start a war or anything but am wondering. Is it because the comments aren’t witty, or take up space, or…? I guess I’m wondering why people bother down-rating certain posts.

I’ll retreat back to the kitty litter now. I’m expecting 1 burger for this post too. I’ll have mine with extra pickles, thanks.
