I have a ginger female cat and I know just 2 others in my block do too!
Orange females are uncommon but not as much as calico males.
I don’t think it matters that much, cats are all sorts of crazy colors.

Kimmypage, not all orange cats = boiz.
Gurl kitiz can be orange, too, but it’s recessive in gurlz. Both parents have to have contributed orange gene on X chromosome… Daddeh HAD to be orange, mummah could be either calico or orange…. so orange / yellow (=”muted” orange) is commonly boi, but not always.
(In fact, mah Kismet is yellow tabby… she vary gurl, I knowz dis, kuz it kostid way moarz for fixering hur at da vetz when she wuz kitun.)

Those are my kitties. Milo (the orange cat) is a boy, and Zumi (the gray cat) is his best friend (she’s a girl). Milo is 6 and Zumi is 6 months. But it’s a good mother’s day shot regardless. Love everywhere!

Orange cats can be females or males. Only calicos and torties are restricted to being female, or at least having 2 X chromosomes. Both the black allele and the orange allele are carried on the X chromososme so the cat would have to have two X chromososmes to have both colors.
Reminds me of what one of our two kittehs used to do to the other one — hold her down with his paws and lick the top of her head. We called it “power grooming”. The groomee would put up with it for a little while, but she could only take so much — and then she’d whack the other kitteh with her paw, go hide under the chair where he couldn’t get at her, and take swipes at him from underneath when he tried to follow her!
