I was at a conference and there was this little black kitteh wandering around the grounds, all cute and friendly. I fed it bits of sandwiches and kept it in my room overnight then after the conference had ended I drove him up to the shelter in SF & dropped him off. I told them they were not to put him down unless he was incurably ill and that I would adopt him if nobody else did.

He was healthy, he got adopted (not by me), all ended well.

Poor persian kitteh (I think you’re using the right breed name! Long hair + squashed face = usually persian or related breed)…. Shaved kitteh NOT HAPPY!!!

I loathed her. And when she was “listening” to you, her mouth hung open like nobody’s business… Difference between Barbara chewing gum and a cow chewing cud is the intelligent and insightful look on the cow’s face!!!

Drop Barbara off in back country w/out cell phone to see how well she enjoys abandonment without food. Has opposable thumbs, be just fine, right? Come back in two weeks and see how it went. Maybe she will know more about what she is talking about then.

i go to the shelter on saturdays to pet all the sad kitties. i’d have to ask permission tho for taking pics and posting them here tho, but i’m afraid explaining ichc to the ppl at the shelter would be a very confusing experience for them.

but it would be so cool. been thinking about taking a pic of this one “persian cat” (dunno if i translated this correx? kitty with very long fluffy hair that looks like it ran into a wall wif its face XD)
it had to be shaven when it got to the shelter, coz fuzzy hairs had gone all rasta style. now it looks all naked and stuff… could be labeled “i can has fur? ”

another kitty has to wear one of those thingies around its neck, that prevents it from scratching the face, could be “beep beep, i has a signal” or sumthing like that…

Someday when Army lets me live someplaces in America for more than a few months at a time, I rescue kittehs! My fambly has 5 kittehs! Vester was our first; my momma found Goober, Marvin and Tooti at the shelter; and then Pretty Tooti was a stray that just kept coming every day and demands we gived her food, so we did. My little sister and momma clean litter boxes several times a day (phew!)

My tabbykitteh had died an I wanted a kitten, so I went to sheltr all winter. No bebekittehz in winter!

Our Maine Coon kitteh #1 (that we got from the shelter, which had labeled him DSH – vet clued us in when at 5 months he was bigger than our adult kitteh) passed away suddenly and we wanted a new kitten SO BAD to keep our pretty calico company! (We had gotten her from shelter as adult kitty.) No babycats at shelter ‘tall ‘tall! Scrutinized ads in paper every day – finally got one from a family that didn’t spay their cat – torn between gratitude and desire to scold! Mama cat was tiny black kitteh, maybe 6-8 pounds, babycat was tiny all-black mini-kitteh and darling… then he got bigger… and bigger… and his tail poofed out and his ear-tufts came up and he grew a ruff… vet said yup, Daddy musta been ANOTHER Maine Coon! Still have him. He weighs 16 pounds and loves his people.

When pretty calico passed on, we got a rescue kitten who was raised on KMR by the vet’s receptionist. Very very people-oriented (I hear that’s common with rescue kittens?) He is full of personality and energy and keeps big old Maine Coon #2 on his toes.

An my Snickakitteh camed over one nite wif boyfriend’s friend. Him put dis eeettty-beety kitteh down in front of BadCat and sez “Meet da KING.” Well, eeeety-beety bebekitteh don know nuffin about roylty, apparently, bcuz himz wobbled up to BadKitteh on his eeeeety-beeety pawzez, and himz gived BadKitteh a beeg SCHMACK!!!! acrost da noze.

Needlest to sayz, Snickakitteh be da King now.

it bery dood to see dat people eben know dat wrecksq exists–lots ob peeps don’t. and dey don’t know how meny kits and goggies get transpurrted to othfur wrecksqs and to fureber homes effury week neithfur….. so many tiny balls of fur (and not so tiny, when dey grow up) and so much need!

Looks LOTZ like british blue. The Chartreux has a very particular eye color, which happicat’s picture doesn’t show, although Happicat’s eyes look almost un-naturally brown.

Barbara (I haz choyc werdz for herz but we no say dem heer) evun kald me stoopid for not “just drive them cats all somewhere out in the country and dump ‘em!!!” I almozd kryd at werk, dis wuz sush a meen naztie fing to says.

I livz in Oklahoma, where ppl think they can just dump doggehs / kittehs off in the country somewhere and they be OK.. but iz NOT ok!! Kitties that been inside has no ideas ’bout how to find mousies and avoid snaykz and baddoggiez… mah Squeezl, her mumma wuz feral.. she MIGHT have a chans but Kismet gots her NO KLOO. And doggehs… evun wers… they not evun hav dat oboy-I-GITS-IT!! pounz inztinkt…. they no know whut to eet, so dem eets poops (eew) and dem eets rodekillz… which is sort ovs okay but den dey is in da rode, wher dem git hits too. Or dem fite wif ‘pozzumz or koonz or kyotiez or get bitsd by znayks.

Is sad. When I tookd Bastien to the vet to see if him had FELV and stuff…. Huzbin and me wuz prepared for writings of big munnychek to a no-kills sheltar to fynd Bastien a homes if him wuz FELV/FIV pozitiv. But him wuznt… so we keeps him, tookd da munny to da ztor, buyd more kitifuud and moar litar box.

I think he was left behind just because his tail is kinda weird, it’s like someone has cut it or is atrophied (is it a word?). Of course it didn’t stop him from being energetic and lovely, just like every other cat. And, obviously, beautiful.

Mah two gurlkitiz were kittens of rescued mummacats (where someone was kind enough to take in stray preggerz mummah but needed not 5 add’l kittunz) … both my girls are spayed of COURSE….

Bastien was a stray, he ‘dopted us. We think he had a family in the neighborhood who maybe moved without him or he got lost too far away to be found again. He used to have tags, is neutered, and has been all-four-paws declawed. He started coming around looking skinnier and skinnier with no tags and I started feeding him. When September came around last year and the weather started getting colder, I put a collar on him to see if anyone removed it for a few days. He came back with collar always.

I took him to the vet, expecting him to have FELV or something …. paid them lotsabux to check him out and board him until all the bloodwork came back… he was completely clean of everything – didn’t even have fleas.

We brought him inside. Aside from his bizarre fixation with pooping on the floor, (and the reception he got from the girls) he’s been a most wonderfully happy kitty. We were so happy when he finally relaxed enough to PLAY. He now has shiny glossy coat, insists on sleepin’ next to mummaz whenever there’s naptime to be had, and is incredibly docile. We luvz him a lot. Him a gud kitteh.

I dropped a kitten on its head one time when I was volunteering at the SPCA and felt absolutely horrible.

(ps — yes, the kitten was fine & ended up in a wonderful forever home but still i felt sooo bad about it.)
