Griffith Park is burning out of control and CBSB lives at the foot of the hilly park. The LA Zoo is being threatened (all the animals are really upset with the helicopters flying continually overhead). And they think some idiot arsonist started the fire.

I am about 1-2 miles away from the action. I don’t think I’ll sleep very well tonight. I’ve got my laptop and my three cat carriers ready to go. Fire is only 30% contained.

Thanks, Elfinugget and snorgler. Cats and me made it through the night. Fire is notw 40% contained so I am not sure how close to home I should stay in case kitties need to bee evacuated.

I believe it is safe enough for me to go into work (bleh) and have my neighbors posted to call me should we get the evacuation order.

I think the Zoo animals are still OK, too. There are trailers parked near-by if they need to evacute but they have no way to evacuate the larger animals. But, again, things look OK.

Thanks again for asking. It’s been pretty scary and surreal around here. Nice to be able to check in to ichc!!

CBSB, glad to hear you and kittehs ok so far … here in FL the entire state seems to be on fire (it’s been a very dry spring); the haze and smell of smoke are a bit overwhelming … bad for kittehs, puppies, horses (this is thoroughbred country), and hoomans. Supposedly there’s a 30-40% chance of rain the next few days … here’s hoping.

CBSB I know what you’re going through. I went through the big San Francisco Bay Area Hills fire. I pulled up my truck and loaded my entire business into it, by myself. Left the stuff that could be easily replaced and booked to a safer location. Shop kittech was upset but got over it with some kitnip and half and half.
One of my first customers when I opened again(all was well, neighborhood not burned) was Amy Tan. She was still old school then and was used to a manual typewriter, several of which I had ready for sale. She picked out a darling little Hermes Rocket.
So take a burrito home and share with kittehs and have a beer.

PlainJane, I’m right there with you. Weeks of this endless smoke seeping into the office, ash all over the car, headaches every day… I’ve about had it. And of course Lex Kitteh is mad because we can’t open the window for him to lizard hunt. Sub-Tropical Storm Andrea finally parked it off the coast and we’re getting some drizzles, which I thought would help with the smoke, but as soon as the rain let up, the smoke rolled in

Thinking of you, CBSB. You’d think that zoo would have an evacuation plan for ALL the animals, given the way the mountains burn every few years. *worried*

CBSB….nuther florida feline friend, here! Saw the pics on the tube….you are in my prayers. Meanwhile the HOT state of Florida (take that any way you want) is putting us asthmatics in bad shape!! Hopefully TS Andrea will at least blow the smoke away….but here’s hope that her early appearance doesn’t foreshadow an active hurricane season

Found out that supposedly 1200 animals were evacuated from the zoo (I’m thinking deer and elk). Where did they take them? I would have loved to have gotten the opportunity to pet them.

They hope to have the fire contained by tonight! Burritos and beer with the kittehs sounds perfect. (Yeah, with all the fires we have you WOULD think the zoo had an evacuation plan. Heard that the zoo is no longer in danger!!!). GC cannot believe you went through that. And Amy Tan is so cool.

That smoke is nasty — Orlando had some rain tonight, and Tampa got some fresh air to blow some of it away today. Hope Andrea comes and straightens it out — so we can have a *quiet* hurricane season this year.
