It’s a Russian Blue. I wish I could find a breeder here in Western Canada, the closest I can find is in California.

That is not a Russian Blue. Lots of people have a tendency to label every single gray cat a Russian Blue. Heck, when I was a kid I had a gray cat and I thought it must be a Russian Blue. However, not only does this cat not have the facial/body structure of a Russian Blue at all (ears are too small for one), Russian Blues only have GREEN eyes.

Anyway, not to sound turdish but that is probably just a common housecat of no particular breed. If it does have any Russian Blue ancestry then it is not purebred due to the eyes being the wrong color.

On a sidenote, this cat does somewhat resemble a British Shorthair. But whether that is actually its breed can’t really be seen from this picture.

Fairlady Z: It might be a British Shorthair, or it might be a Chartreux. My cat Sasha is a Chartreux and she looks like this cat (and the first gray “I can has cheezburger? cat . Very woolly, dense fur, short stubby legs and tail, large round golden amber eyes, and a strange little squeak instead of a meow.

Russian Blues have the same coloring, but with green eyes (as you say), and much longer legs and tail. Chartreux tend to be very solid - a football with legs, as I saw them described on some webpage.

Just jumping in on the Russian Blue/not RB bandwagon. I have had RBs for years, and that cat has the wrong facial structure, and fur is not silvery enough.

@Andre I live in Western Canada now, and got my current Russian Boy from a breeder in Alaska. Postage was quite reasonable.

That boy is a Chartreaux (as is Pope HappyCat the 1st) . Bred to be mousers by the Chartreaux Monks of France. One of mine makes no noise at all, the other YEOWLS from time to time. Beautiful and sweet kettehs but a bit overbred and possessing a delicate constitution.

And they drink too much wine but that’s the French way I guess. Big lushes.

Chartreux cats can has wine. British Blues can has lager.

I think it’s a chartreux. They look a lot like russian blues, except the face is more wide, and they have copper/orange eyes.
