attention plz

We apologize for the interruption of lolcat service! We have outgrown shared hosting so we’re moving to the big leagues. Cheezburger is in the process of buying a shiny new server.
Please bear with us! (Or cat with us, as it were.) We should be back up and running shortly—zippier and happier. kthxbai!
So in other words, what you’re telling us is that . . . we can has cheezserver?
groooooooan =P yes, adam, extra-large juicy cheezserver…soon…hopefully. does anyone have suggestions for best (and cheapest plz) dedicated hosting?
cheezserver LOL… good suggestion.
the goal of ichc is to be a fun site… not to keep killing the servORZ…
. we gotta move now or else no more burgers.

Check out Dreamhost (http://www.dreamhost.com/)
A friend of mine uses it to host his site, and I’ve never seen downtime under it.
Not sure if it’s what you’re looking for, but I thought I’d try and be of some use. =)
Kain… thx, but we is with dreamhost.
they is shared hosting… n we’re growing super fast… we is gonna be the google for lolcats woohoo!
we is eating up too much resources at present, n need to move the site to keep up with demand… we may need to turn off hotlinking, n do some caching magics…
anyother tips? lettus know.
i use nearlyfreespeech.net and am quite happy with them. $1/gigabyte of data transfer, $0.01/megabyte-month of disk space. not dedicated, though–they’re colo’d themselves, through Limelight.
good luck!
here’s our stats… > 1 million page views a month, > 1 tb a month…
anyone here a .htaccess master? I could really use ur help to block out “certain” hotlinking… myspace is hitting us constantly for hotlinked stuffs.

ok, ur more 3133t than me! rofl. you can get quantity discounts with nfsn (they call them “bandwidth buckets”) but it tops out at like 50 or 60%, i think. cuteoverload runs off typepad, i think; maybe they could give you some pointers?
this site might help w/ htaccess: http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/bandwidththeft.shtml
Condolences and Congrats on your predicament!
FWIW, Roosterteeth.com (who have insane D/Ls) recommend thier host. Unfortunately, I can’t remember who that is. Ones and Zeros are in there, IIRC. Anyway, some quality time with google should bear (kat) some fruit (tunaz.)
OMG CHEEZ have you seen the video for bjork’s ‘triumph of the heart’? SO cute – “stop anthropomorphizing me!” LOL
youtube.com/watch?v=DUb5JtyZpnM
does this deserve a special link? ;o)
( sorry – bad link form, try again. FAIL !!! )

Have you looked at 1and1?

they have pretty cheap dedicated boxen.
On the .htaccess issue; when you’re moving servers, consider doing link/leech protection, perhaps. It’s written into most CPanel setups, but you can do it seperately as well. It’s a bit more streamlined (aka pretty) than straightup .ht shiznit.
I build webpages for people, and I’ve found Tripod to be nice. The service is 20-40/mo (can be more depending on if you get a media package, which I assume you’d need) but it’s real easy to use (has ftp, which is a GODSEND) and is compatible with all browsers (for management, doesn’t mean your site is gonna work just depends on what you build it in). Also, Freewebs is ok as well. Same features, but a tad more expensive. Might wanna try Google too, they have some AMAZING packages designed for multimedia, but they run pricey as well.
Hope that helps a lil ^_^
It bes a repost!

The other was mo funny…
yeah, but traffic was killin us. :-/ tofuburger was able to post for me!!!
cari.net are teh cheepest – i loves them!
Take a look at DirectNIC – 15.95 a month is the highest level, and you get 1000GB of data transfer a month. I don’t know if this will be enough for you and teh kitties, but it’s an option.

Check that out to, it shows how to block myspace alone. Myspace is full of bandwidth theives, and I have a feeling that they don’t bring in new viewers, they just use a lot of images. I hotlinked one image on a forum of mine (sorry) but it brought in a couple new viewers. (It was in the Adorable Pictures Thread)
Sorry, I need to post another comment.
How about when you upload the image here, you upload it to a photobucket account or imageshack, then provide a little box with a link to the image hosted on an external server. People are too lazy, so they don’t bother uploading with imageshack, unless you could do it for them.

<neo>I know .htaccess</neo>
Here’s part of I use for my photographs, which myspace scum kept trying to link to. Adapt as you see fit:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} \.(gif|jpe?g|png)$ [NC]RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !www\.my-domain\.com [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !some-other-domain\.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) - [F,NC,L]
What it means is that for all images, return a ‘forbidden’ message instead of the image unless the referrer is my own domain, or some-other-domain.com, or there’s no referrer at all (ie, someone cut n pasted a URL into their browser, or into an email or whatever). Those rules will also block people from coming to your images via google image search and similar though, so you might want to add exceptions for them as well.
