Lost a good cat because someone screwed up on an assembly line…

I disapprove of the idea that processed food- god only knows what, exactly, we put in it- which isn’t even good for HUMANS is good for the animals we care for and love. Pets have been pampered, beaten, or kept alive by humans for a long time. Whether or not it’s been long enough for them to adapt to the stuff we give them and call ‘food’is a question best left to those who bother to keep track. It certainly didn’t start with them having their meals handed to them- cats, for instance, were kept and, instead of being fed, had to catch their meals. That was essentially their role.

Dogs and cats will eat just about anything when hungry- but it’s important to remember that they didn’t always. We’ve bred them so that they’re adaptable and strong. We’ve BRED them so that they can handle a lot of stuff a human wouldn’t spit at- by constantly feeding them stuff a human wouldn’t find worth spitting at.

On one hand, I think it’s probably a good idea to pamper your pets and give them the love they wouldn’t get if they weren’t in your house or home.

On the other, I think that we may be making them weaker- whatever species they are- by pandering to their every whim.
You really just can’t tell. We humans are jerks when it comes to anything to do with money, and will do whatever it takes to reduce our own costs- if a few animals are killed in the process, so what? I can only hope that anyone monstrous enough to try and duck authority and put foods unsuitable for pet consumption in foods named as suck will burn in whatever personal hell they bring upon themselves.

I agree with these comments. I always thought that it’s good to feed both wet AND dry food. Wet for the extra water, dry for the teeth.

I hope maybe people will read all these comments and consider a different food. ♥.

I don’t think there will be any lawsuits… Were there any when they had to recently recall spinach, and peanut butter, and green onions from Taco Bell when all thos epeople were getting sick? (I really don’t know the answer to that…)

and there’s actually generally a lot more bad bacteria in dry food than wet food. you just have to be careful about your brand choices, and you have to introduce your pet to new food GRADUALLY.

if you suddenly change their food or give them something they don’t usually have, it’s normal for them to get sick and throw up because it’s a shock to their systems.

I just wanna clarify that I TOTALLY agree that feeding a cat a vegetarian diet is TOTALLY stupid. I guess I missed that part of the article

very good information about the raw food diet there, which I’m thinking about starting my cat on. There are also links to quality non-crap canned food here that you can buy, since the raw food diet is really impractical for a lot of people.

I was surprised to find Nutro in the list, too, because that is my cat’s normal food (though the dry kind). Seems that even most “natural” brands are made from crap, too, and use the same suppliers as Friskies and crap like that.

and Iams/Eukanuba are craps brands, as is Science Diet. Iams used to be sorta good, but they were bought out by Procter & Gamble a few years ago and now its just junk (which is why you can now them at any grocery store now.)

WithaK, are you a vet or something that gets paid by the companies to sell crap cat food (as most vets are)?

All I can say to anyone is that if you see your pet drinking a lot more water than usual, and they were eating that food, rush them to the vet. The sooner you get them in, the sooner they can get treated. Makes all the difference.

But now this… hitting all the foods I give that I thought was healthy. Thank you for whoever recommended staying away from all wet foods now — until we know what is going on — and suggested rice with ground beef or skinless chicken. My little girl loves wet food so this I can do for her.

I feel so helpless when these things happen. You just try to give your pets the best because you love them so much. Will be interesting to hear what EXACTLY is in the food and how EXACTLY it affects the renal system.

It really upsets me that some people were doing what they thought was the absolute best thing for their little ones and the pets end up dying (one was only 3 years old!).

For those in places other than North America asking whether you should not feed your pets these products, think about it. Lots of times companies downplay recalls. Did you notice their March 16 press release says, they were announcing a “Precautionary Dog and Cat Food Recall”. “Precautionary?” Please. That Press Release also says, “NOT FOR RELEASE OVER US NEWSWIRE SERVICES”. Not for release over US newswire services?

My suggestion is be on the safe side. Don’t use any products on the recall list regardless of where you live.

Hold the douche-calling. And if your wish comes true and I do come back as someone’s pet, I couldn’t wish for something better than to come back as the pet my cat is to me; in my book, a pet is something beloved, not an insult. Period.

I will definately be more careful in the future in choosing food for my pets. No, it doesn’t have to be prime cuts of meat, but I do expect it to be safe, and better yet, good for them. I wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror if one of my cats or my dog died because of something I had fed them.

Though, honestly, at this point I’d rather be safe than sorry.

We normally use a different wet food, but keep a stash of the cheap stuff from the Kwiki-mart for when we forget to re-up. Today was one of those days, and we checked it against the list you put up, and sho’nuff it was on there.

I mention this especially because when we heard the news originally, we checked the usual food and saw that we weren’t affected. It was when we hit the backup, and had second thoughts, that we had to check that too. This site was the one I remembered (because I hit it once a day) so it was much easier to look up. As silly as this place usually is, it also provided a valuable service today.
