Harping on the fact that this is offensive and this isnt wont matter much to you would it? In the end it makes no difference because you took out your narrowed knowledge about geography and muslims and yes ‘desert’ in a picture. Please grow up and come out big that is addressing your knowledge on a much larger scale, I would then question your authenticity

And yes this picture is offensive but lets not make it a big deal. I knew it was enough when someone said “I use bible as my footrest”. I dont mean to stereotype this statement for everyone but i would for anyone who disregards his own teachings and religion and goes around defaming other religions. Peace be on you!

The picture itself seems harmless enough- whether the ruins are native american, or middle eastern in nature seems above and beyond the issue at heart.

There are quite a few sides to this interesting debate, so let me, for a second, hit the neutral zone.

I can easily see how many might find this picture offensive. But then, no one forces anyone to come to this site and look at these pictures. In that case, perhaps this might be rated PG-13 on the off chance that someone might decide not to look at it? It could have ‘religious reasons’ printed under it in parenthesis, if anyone needed a reason.

On the other hand, it’s an image with a cat photoshopped into a picture of ruins with a stupid- if mildly amusing- caption printed underneath it. If someone can’t handle it, I doubt it would ruin their day. It’s a picture for cripes sake. Not a new holy book, or a hint as to the second coming. I myself tend not to be very religious.

To get yourself worked up over something like this seems rather pointless. Either look at it, or don’t. No one holds a gun to your head. It was meant to be funny. The person in question may have had bad taste, and yes, I can see how it might offend, but I don’t think that, in a site like this- with so many other things to be offended by- it really is all that big of a deal.

However…

Religion is a personal matter, and a good many people will not take it as I do. Perhaps this picture really is better scrapped.

There are a million different portrayals of the several million denominations out there that you AREN’T offended by. You laugh at dumb blonde jokes? Well it’s the same thing. Please don’t try and argue otherwise. The only difference is that one generalizes a religious stereotype while the other uses hair colour as a punchline Either could be equally as hurt by the remarks…therefore laughing at one isn’t any more right or wrong than not doing over the other.
