Not yours, apparently.
The “ise” ending is a corruption of the Greek “-ιζειν”, pronounced with a “z” sound. The American “z” is more etymologically correct, in addition to being closer to the actual pronunciation in both American and (I assume you were referring to)British dialects. Also, the “ise” spelling only has a 3:2 prevalence in the British National Corpus(a quite large body of British publications for lexicographic study), and is generally not used in international or scientific publications. By the way Andog, if you really want to know who owns the language, that would be the speakers, and America has 4 times as many of them than Britain, by a conservative estimate. I am an American(if you could not tell by now, lol), and I prefer the “s” spelling(just because it looks better), but the “z” is by no means incorrect.
