Yeah, I flashed back on that one, but can’t quite remember how the tune goes or who did it. I do remember I loved it though…. Do you know who did that song? Or was it one out of a music book in school? It’s right on the tip of my memory……
Silver Burdett music series, 4th grade book. There are undoubtedly others but this is how I know it. Our class wanted to sing it every time the roving music teacher came around…mostly because everyone laughed at the way the lady on the tape sang the “miao miao miao.”

In all actuality… this cat probably has heart disease, diabetes or any number of diseases… this is not funny… it is sad, and I hope it’s owners realize it and help it lose weight soon. I work in a vet clinic and I have seen cats on the brink of death simply from being overfed…

I really don’t appreciate the stereotype. And, if that picture is indeed real, the owner should be charged with cruelty. There is no excuse for letting a cat get morbidly obese like that.

And the stereotype might be annoying if it wasn’t TRUE. America has more obese people than any other country in the world, and it’s just getting worse. Thin people are definitely the minority.

Oh wow, maybe you should have read the article first before acting like you know everything. That survey is about percentages and doesn’t take into account the massive difference in population.
Nauru has a population of 13,528 people so that means that it has 12,784 obese people. The United States has a population of 303,332,000 so that means it has 224,769,012 obese people. While Nauru may have the largest percentage, they don’t beat out the US in total number of obese people.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that your snotty response about fact checking=EPIC FAIL!
I don’t know why everyone has something against fat people? I’m not fat but I think that if your country is a very fat one, then you should be proud. At least I’m not a starving ethiopian child. I would rather have americans dying of heart attacks from being fat and happy then dying of starvation from having no food. Also, if you have more people than other countries, then of course there are going to be more of one type. So percentages do count in the long run. That leaves less than 1,000 people from Nauru who are skinny and yet over 10,000 americans who are skinny. So technically your response = EPIC FAIL! jk, I’m just saying, if percentages don’t mean shit, then what does?
You shouldn’t be proud of your country’s weight. That doesn’t make any sense; weight is not a virtue, skill, or desired trait. I’m not saying that being skinny and/or starving is a trait either.
Another note: that’s the thing about a fattest country; the country itself is not fat; there are just numbers of fat and skinny people. Just as there is not a .4 of a child for the average 2.4 children/family, a country does not have a weight: a country does not have health, or a BMI, or even a body. Because of this, whether you use percentages or raw numbers is irrelevant and can be chosen arbitrary.
Also, even if there are a lot of fat people in America (there are less fat people than many think, and many of those fat people are much less visibly slobs), so what? Does that mean you have to rub it in the faces of the skinny/healthy people during every photo shoot/news cast/cartoon/opportunity you get?!
Lastly, if you define a country by the health of a few of it’s members, something is very wrong with your train of thinking: America was not founded on the idea of being fat or skinny or healthy; it was all about freedom. To define America by certain Americans is sick and wrong, and no one notices.

Courtney, I live in the United States and we may have the largest number of obese citizens but that’s not what rankings are meant to take into account. When they list cities by highest murder rate, they don’t just list the city with the most murders but, in fact, most murders per capita. And so if other countries have a higher per capita incidence of obesity, then cranberrytuna hasn’t had an “epic fail”… We’re an obese country, without a doubt. I’m obese. We can all think of people who fit a stereotype. Doesn’t mean stereotypes aren’t offensive.
Re: the cat. I hope it’s photoshopped or that the cat just has a medical condition that’s caused that weight problem. It’s never cute to deliberately overfeed a pet like that.

I don’t understand why the americans out there are taking offense to this- to say that your country is full of fat people is just a stereotype. It’s most likely slightly true, but not to such an extent. Like us english- apparently we walk around with tophats and live off tea and crumpets, which is clearly not entirely true.

I understand that every country has stereotypes, it’s just the american stereotypes are especially offensive these days. It seems to me I’d rather people assumed I walked around with a top hat eating tea and crumpets than they assume I’m fat, stupid, and have no culture. I wouldn’t have a problem with this caption (and I don’t, really) if it weren’t for the fact that I’ve been hearing a lot of american bashing lately. I mean an incredible amount, and not everyone is joking about it. I was on a blog post featuring pictures of money, and the guy writing said he didn’t know who all of the people (on the bills) were in the the pictures. All the comments on the post were about how he’s a stupid typical american who didn’t know who was on their own money. Nobody seemed to notice that he wasn’t american- not even in the western hemisphere. They were too eager to laugh at another stupid american. If *I’m* getting sick of american bashing (when I’ve been known to do a little myself), you can expect there’s probably a lot of people out there who are getting more than sick of it. Just my take, sorry for the epic comment.

Uhh..? Stereotypes all exist from some base which is an observation of a recurring theme, be it action, reaction, or something about how a group is physically. I’m American and not fat, but I can accept that the majority of Americans are. People shouldn’t be flamed because they allude to something that is true. Also, to me at least, and I’m not saying anyone should agree as this is just my opinion, it does not seem as though the caption is meant to be hurtful or to shame anyone or as a snipe. It’s a joke.
