Hah, yeah, the reason I always call it the “bucket saga” is because I really don’t think this is a walrus….
It’s actually a Southern Elephant Seal, the largest of of the walrus and seal family. This seal, Minazo, is from Japan and was well known for posing with a bucket.

It’s Minazo!
He was a very famous and beloved southern elephant seal from Japan. There are dolls, a picture book and even musical tributes dedicated to Minazo. On the cover of the first of the four album memorial to Minazo after he passed away in 95′ he his drawn rideing on a big puffy cloud with his bucket in fipper.
Yep, Amy, it’s Minazo.
He was made famous by the Japanese band Merzbow. The image you’re talking about was one of their album covers.

I love the bucket saga, and all the photos at lolcats are so cute & funny. But I don’t see how the I has a buckit critter is a male elephant seal. Don’t they have huuuuge schnozzolas? I guess it’s not a walrus either, I really couldn’t guess, and now I’m curious lol.
