Ipod classic or video hardrive?

That’s an IBM Microdrive.
It has a CF-type connector and was designed
to replace a CF card. Thu cf and ide are olmost
identical (CF is 3.3v).
The picture was originally an advertisement so
there is no original joke, but it is a picture of
a cute guinea pig.

That isn’t a hamster, it is a guinea pig. Also, that is an EIDE hard drive not a CF-type HDD. It just so happens that i have one that small.

I LOLed, because I “got it” because back in the olden days we always referred to trouble on the mainframe as “gerbils are sick” or “one of the gerbils died” or “the gerbils are holding a work slow-down, talk to their union” or well, you get the idea, gerbils powered the mainframe.

But I didn’t get it, cuz that’s a hamster. And hamsters never powered anything, at least not in any corporate setting I’m aware of. So the story of hamster + microdrive – surrounding computer, that works, too. I guess I’m still stuck in the early ’80s again.

Hey, to the whole bunch of people either not getting it, or believing a vit fast they got it,
THIS is a MICRODRIVE, same format as a Compact Flash II card, some years ago, it was the only way to have 1,2 or 3go on a CF card, and it was bloody expensive (used for DSLRs, (maybe also some at that time high capacity mp3 players etc… (but there where things as the archos, that usued a laptop drive if i remember well, and was already 10Go+))

This is definitely Not a laptop hard drive, (this is way smaller, you can pile maybe 30 of these to occupy the same volume as 3,5 inch HDDs and and maybe 10 or 12 in a 2,5 inch hdd (the laptop ones)
(there are also 1,8 inch drives (for ultra thin laptops and ipods and such, but still bigger than this thing, wich is quite surely a microdrive)

The sucky part is thats it is open to the wilderness of regular air, exposed to dust, pollens, static electricity, and the list goes on, thats why this is a “oh noez!” situation, opened, it becomes merely decorative…

Actually, that is a laptop hard drive, not a computer chip. And the fact that it is *open* so you can see the platters is why the owner is pretty screwed.

For all the people that don’t get it, that’s a hard drive that was taken out of a computer. Usually internal hard drives should be INSIDE the computer. Therefore, the rodent is implying that “he wuz in ur puter, messin’ wit ur hard drivez.”
